SHARE OUR STORIES 2020

The Share Our Holiday Stories Campaign is designed to bring people together over the holidays during the Covid-19 pandemic. People of all ages are feeling the strain of the pandemic, and coming together around stories helps us all.

The campaign is centered around kids and teens writing letters to another generation, asking for a reply letter about a holiday story or memory from times past. The goal is to connect generations and bring joy to the holidays.

CONNECTING WITH LOVED ONES

Kids and teens around Montana send letters to loved ones or more isolated people in their lives, strengthening connections and passing down family and community history. At a time when families may not be able to get together in person, writing letters and sharing stories brings joy to the whole family.

CONNECTING WITH COMMUNITY MEMBERS

Teens send letters to community members who would like to participate, creating new generational connections and sharing holiday spirit. Schools or local youth groups facilitate these connections by acting as an intermediary, providing a mailing address for letters.

 BASED ON TRADITION

The Share Our Stories Holiday campaign is based on the ongoing tradition of passing stories down from one generation to the next. Usually we do that by telling memories, but many families cannot get together this year. The members of our community are more isolated then ever before, and this campaign provides a way to not only connect with others, but share something valuable and important with the younger generation - life experiences from another time.

SHARING STORIES WITH THE WHOLE COMMUNITY

If you are willing to have your story shared with our larger community, we will post stories here on this website, Facebook, or Instagram. Letters can be posted anonymously or with your name. This helps spread the word about the campaign, shows what it's about, and encourages others to do the same to spread holiday spirit and joy!

ABOUT US

Hi, i'm Mikey Andersen. I'm an eighth grader at Sacajawea Middle School. One day, I realized how few people were going to get to see their relatives this holiday season, including me. I started to think about ways to become more connected as a community, and maybe even grow closer. That is when I had the idea for the Montana Share Our Stories Holiday Campaign. I reached out to other kids in the local area, including the students at my school, to help make this idea a reality. The Sacajawea Student Council, Parent Advisory Council, and local businesses have helped me turn it into a school initiative, and get the word out about the campaign to everyone.  Thanks to all who take part!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Thank you to all the community members who signed up to receive a letter from a student! The letters have been sent for this holiday season, but we look forward to connecting with you next year!
